Ports & Maritime
An On-Call Specialty Partner Ports Can Rely On
Port authorities and maritime operators run continuous operations. Vessels berth, cargo moves, and dredging programs run on schedules that cannot pause for procurement cycles every time a dredge placement area needs attention or a slip needs maintenance work.
U.S. Aqua serves ports and maritime operators with on-call specialty services - amphibious excavation, dredge placement area maintenance, containment dike construction, sediment removal, and shoreline stabilization - delivered by self-performing crews with owned equipment that mobilizes when the port needs us, not when a subcontractor is available.

On-call amphibious services and dredge placement area maintenance for active port operations |
U.S. Aqua delivers ongoing on-call specialty services, supporting dredge placement area maintenance and amphibious excavation work that keeps the Port of Mobile's dredge material management facilities operating at capacity. The on-call structure allows our client to direct U.S. Aqua crews and equipment to scopes as they arise, rather than re-procuring each task individually.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ports & Maritime FAQ
-
What on-call services does U.S. Aqua provide for port authorities?
U.S. Aqua provides on-call amphibious excavation, placement area maintenance, containment dike construction and repair, sediment removal, and shoreline stabilization for port authorities. On-call arrangements allow port operations teams to mobilize specialty crews and equipment quickly for routine maintenance, capacity restoration, and emergency response without re-procuring each scope of work.
-
Why is dredge placement area maintenance important for ports?
Port maintenance dredging generates large volumes of dredged material that must be placed in confined disposal facilities (CDFs), also known as dredge placement areas. Over time these areas fill up and lose capacity, which restricts the port's ability to maintain navigation depth. Dredge placement area maintenance - including dewatering, capacity restoration, dike raising, and beneficial use removal of accumulated material - keeps these facilities operational and protects long-term dredging and navigation programs.
-
Can U.S. Aqua perform work without disrupting active port operations?
Yes. Active port and terminal facilities cannot be shut down for maintenance work. U.S. Aqua coordinates with port operations teams, terminal operators, and vessel traffic to schedule work in windows that do not interfere with cargo movement, vessel berthing, or terminal access. Crews are oriented to port-specific safety, security (TWIC), and access requirements before mobilization.
-
What equipment does U.S. Aqua deploy for port and maritime work?
U.S. Aqua deploys amphibious marsh excavators, long-reach excavators, hydraulic and submersible dredge pumps, work barges, material barges, and support craft for port and maritime projects. Equipment is mobilized by barge, lowboy, or self-propelled to port project sites. The fleet is owned and operated by U.S. Aqua, which means it is available when the port needs it - not subject to subcontractor scheduling.
-
Does U.S. Aqua respond to emergency port and maritime work?
Yes. U.S. Aqua maintains rapid mobilization capability for emergency port and maritime work including post-storm channel and slip reopening, breach repair on placement area dikes, sediment removal after major weather events, and shoreline stabilization following damage. Owned equipment, full-time crews, and existing on-call relationships with port authorities allow us to respond when ports need specialty contractors on short notice.
